  1. Introduction
  2. Some members of the Barrie Muslim community have decided to form a social welfare organization by the name of Aftercare Group Barrie (AGB), comprising of limited number of registered members of the community residing in the County of Simcoe. 
The purpose of the organization is to alleviate the financial impact on the aggrieved family in the event of a sad demise of any member or his/her immediate dependent residing family members by bearing the predetermined Basic Burial Expenses (which will include Funeral home expense, basic wooden coffin, Grave without a marker, graveyard expense and it is fixed at up to $4000).

  3. Group Name and Operation

Aftercare Group Barrie (AGB), a non-profit association formed by the community members by mutually contributing and maintaining at all times an agreed amount in (AGB) joint bank account to cover the complete Basic Burial Expense (BBE) that may incur on the final burial for the deceased member or his/her immediate dependent family member in the allocated community burial grounds at Innisvale Cemetery and Crematorium Ltd., located at 7551 Fifth Side Road Innisfil, Ontario L9S 3S1.

    Primarily the AGB shall consist of limited number of members and thereafter it will be open for additional members if so agreed by the Managing Group.

    A Managing Group (MG) has been formed by the founding members to execute and manage the launching activities of AGB and thereafter MG shall continue as act as a sole governing body. Managing Group shall consist of Group Secretary, Team Coordinator, Group Treasurer and other members.

    The AGB shall have no affiliations with Barrie Mosque or any other group neither it is meant to receive funds from any government or other social services agencies nor it will be engaged in any profit-making business. AGB shall provide social welfare services only through the amount of money contributed by the members.

  5. Induction of Member and Exit from the membership status
  6. Community members who are willing to become a member shall fill in the attached Membership Application Form (MAF) and attach a cheque or cash of a set amount as Member Contribution Amount (MCA).

      Following is a list of possible membership categories.
    1. Single-family unit will be considered as one membership and will pay $125 x 1 = $125.
    2. Single-family unit with parents will be considered one family with parents will pay $125 x 1 = $125 plus $40 per parent.
    3. Two family units in one household with parents, it will be considered two memberships will pay $125 x 2 = $250 plus $40 per parent.
    4. Two family unit in one household with parents and unmarried siblings it will be considered three memberships two for the married families and one for the parents with unmarried children will pay $125 x 3 = 375.

    It is moral and religious obligation of the applicant to provide true and accurate statements in the Membership Application Form.

    The (MAF) application will be reviewed and potential member will be informed accordingly. MG retains all rights to accept or reject an application with no question asked.

    Depending upon the number of members, the MCA per family will be set by dividing the amount of money that need to be maintained always Total Contribution Amount (TCA) with the number of members.

    The current contribution amount for the members is calculated at $125 per member family and $40 per parent, AGB has the right to change membership contribution subject to the market fluctuation.

    This membership is only available to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents, visiting individuals are not covered by this membership.

    Every member is required to inform AGB of any residential or family status changes within 90 days’ period.

    Member moving out of Simcoe County does not lose his/her membership unless he/she wishes to exit from AGB. In the latter case, he/she can give an exit notice and his/her membership will be considered canceled. In this case, no refund shall be given to the outgoing member.

    Also, if an AGB member has provided false/misleading information in his/her MAF, AGB then has all rights to cancel his/her membership and forfeit the contributed money.

  7. Working Procedure
  8. The said financial assistance is only available for AGB members and their immediate dependent family members residing with him/her in the County of Simcoe, Ontario Canada.

    1. In the event of sad demise of any registered member or his/her immediate family member, the aggrieved family shall notify by calling and/or SMS to the Mosque Imam or anyone in AGB on the following telephone numbers.

    3. The aggrieved family member along with community volunteers shall carryout all the regulatory requirements, rituals and other formalities, required in final burial process of the deceased.
    4. The aggrieved family member shall confirm the allocation of burial spot at Innisvale Cemetery from the Mosque’s Imam.
    5. AGB shall bear the cost incurred in the final burial process up to the Basic Burial Expense fixed by AGB.
    6. Any cost incurred above the BBE set limit shall be borne by deceased family.
    7. In case the family of the deceased request the burial outside the Simcoe County, AGB will still be willing to cover the cost up to an amount set as Basic Burial Expense (BBE) the current amount is fixed at $4000.
    8. AGB shall not bear the BBE charges if the member or his/her immediate dependent family member is registered with AGB but residing outside Canada.
    9. If an AGB member wishes to pay for their burial expense, they will have the option to do so by coordinating with MG’s Team Coordinator.

  9. Collection of Funds
    1. The Total Contributed Amount (TCA) has arbitrarily been fixed to $4000 for time being. TCA amount shall always be maintained in AGB’s bank account.
    2. The Basic Burial Expenses has been fixed at up to $4000, which will include Funeral home expense, basic wooden coffin, Grave without a marker and graveyard expense.
    3. Withdrawal of amounts from the joint account will only be possible through signatories of authorized Managing Group members. All withdrawal transactions from the account shall be done through cheques.
    4. MG retains, but not limited to, the following rights, through this bylaw:
      1. Number of members to be inducted in AGB
      2. Fix and/or to adjust the Basic Burial Expense amount as the expenditure may vary with time.
      3. Fix and / or to adjust the Limit of Total Contribution Amount as the expenditure may vary with time.
      4. Cancelling a membership upon non-payment of MCA for the period of 60 days, breach of bylaws providing false or misguided information in the MAF etc.
      5. Make changes in the bylaws
      6. Etc.
    5. The spending will be fully auditable and AGB shall provide breakdown of expenditure to the members at the end of each year or upon request.
    6. The first deposit of Member Contribution Amount (MCA) by each member shall be through cheque and later direct deposit to the AGB bank account with an e-transfer using this email agbbarrie@gmail.com.
    7. Each member is bound to deposit / transfer the allocated MCA amount within the said time into AGB bank account to maintain the TCA always and thus make it available for any sudden use, the membership can be cancelled for non-payment of MCA for the period of 60 days.
    8. The depositor shall inform his/her transaction and provide deposit receipt to the Group Treasurer through email or SMS.
    9. If any or both AGB member or his/her spouse’s parents are residing with the AGB member at the same address, that member then is required to pay $40 per parent in addition to required Member Contribution Amount per Family.
    10. On case to case basis AGB Managing Group shall have the right to decide on taking-over Basic Burial Expenses for any non-member or his/her deceased immediate family member who is unable to bear the burial expense.
    11. AGB is also open for any denotations from all individuals (members or non-members) who are willing to participate in the contribution for the sake of community.
    12. Since Member Contribution Amount is not a charity and AGB is not a charitable organization as well hence, as per Canada Revenue Agency it cannot issue any receipt for the purpose of tax return or tax rebate.
    13. MG Group Treasurer shall keep auditable record of all the activities (including deposits and spending) of AGB joint bank account. Team Coordinator will directly coordinate for payments and other transaction during the performing of the burial services.
    14. For the purpose of transparency in transactions all Basic Burial Expense incurred during burial process shall be made through cheques.

  10. Dispute Resolution
    1. All related disputes with the AGB shall be brought to its Managing Group through Team Coordinator.
    2. The dispute shall be resolved through mutual discussion and if so required by a majority voting.
    3. The resolution on the issue shall be treated as binding without a legal recourse of any sort by all parties.

  11. Responsibility
  12. AGB shall be treated as a group sharing part of the financial impact at the sad demise of a community member but AGB will not be responsible for expenses related with hospital bills, medicine bills, room charges and any other hospital dues.

    1. The entire burial process is the responsibility of the aggrieved family and AGB shall only be considered sharing part of the financial impact as mentioned above.
    2. The aggrieved family shall fully comply by the local and/or govt. rules & regulations applied in the complete burial process.
    3. AGB shall not be held liable for any incident which may have caused displeasure and/or indirect or direct loss of any kind to concerned party or parties.

  13. Correspondence
  14. All correspondence between the individual AGB member and Team Coordinator and/or other Managing Group members shall be done through email or SMS unless informed otherwise.

  15. Confidentiality
  16. All members are committed to maintain confidentiality with regards to other AGB members, deceased community members and his/her family etc.
